Psychotherapy Approaches Used:

  • Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy ( REBT)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Existential/Humanistic
  • Solution-Focused Therapy

Dr. Ghazal Dawoodi’s main approach involves Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT); the pioneering form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) developed by Dr. Albert Ellis in 1955. REBT is an action-oriented approach to managing cognitive, emotional, and behavioural disturbances.

According to REBT, it is largely our thinking about events that leads to emotional and behavioural upset. With an emphasis on the present, individuals are taught how to examine and challenge their unhelpful thinking, which creates unhealthy emotions and self-defeating/self-sabotaging behaviours. REBT/CBT is a treatment based on scientific evidence and has been proven to be effective in treating many psychological problems, including many forms of anxiety, depression, eating disorders, relationship problems, substance use, and difficulties with anger and emotion regulation.

Dr. Ghazal Dawoodi has also been trained for Solution Focused Therapy. Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), focuses on solutions and is goal-oriented. SFT was developed by Steve de Shazer (1940-2005), and Insoo Kim Berg (1934-2007) and their colleagues beginning in the late 1970’s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She is also a follower of a person-centered therapeutic approach; which emphasizes on unconditional acceptance and positive regard of the client as a human being; empathic understanding of the client and authenticity of the therapist.
